Schooling trials unveiled

24 January 2025

A working group co-ordinated by the Horse Welfare Board, and generously supported by the Racing Foundation, is launching a pilot to bring schooling trials to Britain. It is hoped that these events will provide an additional opportunity to prepare horses for the racecourse, providing them with valuable benefits.

The days will take place across both licensed Racecourses and Point-to-Point courses.

The first pilot events have been scheduled for Thursday 30 January at Larkhill (Weatherbys Point-to-Point 5m NW of Amesbury, 10m N of Salisbury, nr A303, A345 and A360. SP3 4DT) and Wednesday 5 February at Chaddesley Corbett (Weatherbys Point-to-Point Next to A448 midway between Bromsgrove & Kidderminster (Exit 4 or 5, M5, Exit 1, M42 DY10 4QT) Point-to-Point courses.

Each day will feature 6-8 schooling trials, with “fields” of typically 10 – 12 horses comprising a mixture of Chase Fence trials, Bumper trials, and Hurdle trials (depending upon facilities / infrastructure), all conducted at a sensible pace, with no obligation to travel as one group.
