Placepot Pointers - Glorious Goodwood day 4
Day four of the 2020 Qatar Goodwood Festival is a mouth-watering Friday of top notch Flat racing action. We look ahead to the six-leg Tote Placepot and with some compact, competitive fields, it will prove an interesting challenge for punters to negotiate. Below you will find some handy pointers to help things along in search of the perfect perm.

How's the Going?
The going has been described as Good the past couple of days, but with plenty of forecast, keep an eye out for an update as things dry out. It will also pay to check the winning times, as they often give a good indicator as to the actual conditions at play.
The Big Trend
JIM CROWLEY has arguably been the most potent jockey this season. Sheikh Hamdan’s retained pilot boasts an 18% overall strike rate at Goodwood in the past five years, along with a boosted 25% record in 2020.
Crowley has an incredibly strong book of rides at Goodwood on Friday, not least the mighty Battaash, who is 3 from 3 at the track and will take a world of beating in the 3:15pm (Leg 5).
Placepot Banker
In truth, there’s a couple of real bankers today. BATTAASH (3:15pm, Leg 5) has made the Sussex Downs his backyard in recent years and he looks nailed-on to complete a quartet of wins in the Group 2 King George Stakes.
Jim Crowley gets the leg up on KHALOOSY (2:15pm, Leg 3) for Roger Varian today and this impressive grey son of Dubawi will take some stopping in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes. He recorded a swift time when dotting up in an Ascot handicap last time out and appears to be a miler of some potential.
Outsiders to Consider
CARDSHARP (2:45pm, Leg 4) joins Vale Of Kent (see below) as an agreeable duo to have on side in the tricky Golden Mile Handicap here. Drawn in five, he did best of those who raced up with the pace behind Blue Mist last time out and a repeat of that run here would see him right on the premises under William Buick, who has an excellent record at the track.
BERKSHIRE SAVVY faces a stiff task in a field of eight rivals at 1:10pm, but the penny dropped for Andrew Balding’s improving three-year-old last time out. A 6lb rise in the weights may not be enough to deny him a place here under the guidance of Oisin Murphy.
Torpedo leg
With 15 to post for the Golden Mile at 2:45pm (Leg 4), we are denied the four places and are presented with a fiendishly difficult race to pull apart. Sir Busker arguably has the best overall form and has to be considered. The worry is he won’t get the splits required to land a blow given his running style.
With that in mind and several others at the top of the market usually requiring cover, the one to side with could be Mark Johnston’s VALE OF KENT. This fella is nicely drawn in stall three, only has one way of running and he could draw the sting out of the majority of this field from the front.
