Another huge Scoop 6 Rollover

Another week, another huge rollover for the Scoop6. Seven Saturdays without a winner means there is over £340,000 rolling into this week’s fund.

Your Scoop6 Tips at Newmarket and Newbury on Saturday

 

Leg 1 (Newbury - 2:25pm) - AFAAK & ORBAAN

It might be worth throwing a couple of darts at the first leg of the Scoop6, a tricky mile handicap at Newbury. One horse who tends to relish these sorts of contests is AFAAK, who rarely runs a bad race over a mile. Blinkers were applied at Goodwood when he finished a decent third, and a return to a slightly stiffer track is likely to suit him here. Charlie Hills’ horse comes into the race off the same mark as when triumphant in the Royal Hunt Cup last year, and it is interesting that Jim Crowley has chosen to ride him over the well-fancied Jahbath.

ORBAAN is another who is interesting here. He’s come to hand nicely since joining David O’Meara, scoring at a big price on his second start and beating a handful of subsequent winners. Next time out he kept on well over the same course and distance after missing the break. This former Listed winner should have more to give this season.

Leg 2 (Newmarket - 2:40pm) - KARIBANA

Trained by Richard Hughes, KARIBANA has improved on each of his three runs since racing returned in June. He was well on top over course and distance last time out, continuing a pattern of some very solid speed figures. Hughes has been among the winners this week, so with the yard going well, a 6lb rise might not be enough to stop him rattling off a hat-trick.

Leg 3 (Newmarket 3:15pm) - CLAREYBLUE & ROCK BOY GREY

Two horses, one stepping up in trip, and another dropping back a furlong make up our two-pronged attack in the third leg. CLAREYBLUE has travelled well but lacked the finishing kick in his previous couple of outings. The last time he ran over six furlongs, he finished second behind a subsequent Listed race third, and ahead of five subsequent handicap winners. With a little longer to unravel his finishing effort, he’s respected.

Dropping back from seven furlongs is ROCK BOY BLUE. He travelled well, and kicked on to make his challenge last time out at Ascot, but couldn’t go with the principles and faded in the final furlong. He’d finished second a couple of times over today’s trip prior to that this season and though he needs to eke out a bit more, this shorter distance could see him back on the up again.

Leg 4 (Newbury - 3:35pm) - DREAM OF DREAMS

On multiple occasions, DREAM OF DREAMS has arrived late on the scene in some of the big six furlong sprints only to find one too pacy for him. The dual Diamond Jubilee Stakes runner-up is sure to appreciate the seven furlongs of the Hungerford Stakes, and looks a worthy favourite. He made the running in this race in 2018, but was picked off late by seven furlong specialist Sir Dancealot. These days, the six-year-old tends to be ridden with a bit more restraint, and if the chips fall right, he’s going to be hard to beat.

Leg 5 (Newbury 4:45pm) - MAFIA POWER & BRIGHT EYED EAGLE

A tricky contest means a couple of horses are worth siding with in the 4:45. MAFIA POWER is a horse that might be one of the most exposed in the field, but arguably brings the strongest form. His run at Goodwood needs forgiving, but he was an excellent winner at Haydock on his penultimate run. Prior to that he was beaten just two lengths by Zabeel Champion who went on to score at Newmarket and go close at Glorious Goodwood. Richard Hannon’s colt still has potential, so is worth siding with.

Doubling up in this tough race could be key, and you could do worse than BRIGHT EYED EAGLE. Ed Walker’s charge relished a step up to a mile-and-a-half on his seasonal reappearance when winning at Goodwood. Two strong efforts in defeat in solid-looking handicaps since make him a player.

Leg 6 (Newbury 5:55pm) - SONGKRAN

Formerly running in the same King Power colours of Mafia Power, SONGKRAN has thrived since moving on and joining the fledgling yard of George Boughey. He’s climbed from a starting handicap mark of 60, up to today’s rating of 85 thanks to four wins and one runner-up effort this term. The way in which he won last time out suggests that he’s not done improving just yet, pulling clear in the final half-furlong. Another win for the son of Slade Power will be a triumph not only for Boughey, but for anyone that sides with him in the final leg of this week’s bumper Scoop6.
